The importance of silence to relieve stress

On the 7th of May, the International Day of Silence is celebrated. Read on to discover the benefits of silence in our daily lives.

This date aims to raise awareness of the disturbances that noise pollution causes.

In addition to affecting physically, excessive noise also impairs concentration and raises stress levels.

The practice of meditations or simply being in an environment far from constant noise are already a beginning of good habits. Sometimes it is difficult to focus, but if we keep in mind that silence contributes to our well-being and that it should be part of our daily life, we will never abandon this practice.

William James, philosopher and one of the founders of modern psychology, managed to define the essence of the importance of silence in the following sentence: “the exercise of silence is as important as the practice of speech”.

On this day of silence, SOKURA advises you to turn off the music, the television, and try to move along paths with less noise. Take advantage of this day to avoid arguments. Then we challenge you to make this activity a regular practice.

How to participate on the silence day?

  • Book a massage at home: This way you won’t have to leave your home, and you’ll have at least one hour of complete silence and complete relaxation in your comfort zone. Book a massage.
  • Meditate or do a body scan: Lie down in a comfortable position, close your eyes and take a deep breath. Start by mentally focusing on your feet, legs, torso, arms and head. During the entire process, focus on your breathing. Link to body scan here.
  • Walk on the beach or countryside: In the morning or at the end of the day.
  • Read a book: Start or finish that book that has been on the shelf for so long to be touched.

Nothing simpler than listening to yourself! After this fantastic experience advised by SOKURA, we hope that it will contribute to improving your quality of life and general well-being. This is the SOKURA vision.
